Essence Music Festival 2009.
The 15th Anniversary of the Essence Music Festival will be celebrated this summer in New Orleans. The event will take place July 3rd- July 5th. Each night, there will be amazing performances from several talented performers. This year's lineup includes MAXWELL, Eric Benet, Jazmine Sullivan, Janelle Monae, Raphael Saadiq, Zap Mama, Lalah Hathaway, Ledisi, John Legend, Solange, and more. Here is the video for Solange's third single from Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams. I loved the song when I first heard it, it was an obvious choice for a single. But honestly, I was expecting a little more from the video. I pray that "Dancing In The Dark" is next.

Just playing around with photoshop and such, so this page might change a lot. Anyway, I'm trying to get some albums uploaded, but it has come to my attention that I'm neglecting the males. I have a lot of females on here, and a lot more to post, but I want to give the males some attention too.
Well, here's a little bit of news. Solange premieres her "Sandcastle Disco" on FNMTV tomorrow night. I've seen the preview and it looks good. Her album is in stores August 26th. John Legend premieres his "Green Light" video on FNMTV on August 22nd. Mary J. Blige and Robin Thicke are going on tour, the first few dates are September 19th at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater in Virginia Beach, VA, Nissan Pavilion in Virginia, and at Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion, NC on the 21st(thanks to http://www.ultimatemjb.com/). More tour dates and tickets here. Musiq Soulchild no longer seems to be the "soulchild" with his new video for "Radio." Trying to go mainstream? Not feeling it...watch it below.

In this journey I have been so blessed to come across many faces and spaces that have shown so much love. I hear so many folk who love that the record is a departure from most of the traditional things out right now. I get people who love my steez and encourage me to be me and I THANK YOU!!
Unfortunately I’m in an industry where diversity is not celebrated the way it should be. When some people see and hear something different it feels foreign to them and they don’t like that. Everyone has a choice of what they like and that’s a beautiful thing!!!
BUT Record labels, managers, publicist, journalist, media ect… have a tendency to see something work and try to reciprocate that with another artist thinking that’s what makes success. To me what makes success is letting people be truly who they are.When I heard Kanye's "Everything I Am" I instantly fell in love. I felt my story somewhere in his. I felt his frustration yet acceptance of who he was. So I decided to put my own little twist on it:)
Warning: This song in NO WAY shape or fashion has a negative light to any of the artist I mention...I love and respect them ALL. I am just simply expressing myself and my story. When I say F.U. I am talking to no one in particular, only those that feel guilty of categorizing :)
I feel that many people can relate to this song outside of the industry and that’s why I want to share.
